Nearly 15 million people in the world are refugees.

Nearly 50,000 refugees make Columbus Ohio their home.

Columbus Ohio has the 2nd largest Somali community in the U.S.

They have been displaced from their homelands by war, disease, poverty and violence. In the U.S., from 2001 to 2004, an average of 61,487 refugees have arrived annually.

Immigrants and refugees have serious and distinct needs, requiring dedicated assistance from their host communities. Such obstacles as poverty, language barriers, emotional trauma, lack of education, and disparities in health care, all contribute to inevitably hinder new residents from achieving their full potential.

People who are able to understand and appreciate the unique cultural value of refugees and immigrants are indisputably the best ones suited to address their needs.

The Horn of Africa Community Center Inc. is committed to relieving that burden of responsibility by empowering immigrants and refugees through education, advocacy, and mentoring programs.

We have become a principal community service organization, impacting the lives of immigrants and refugees on a daily basis. With the proper support and assistance, these new residents can become an enrichment to the communities in which they reside.
